What Raw Earth Means to Me

It is the feeling I get when I immerse myself in the Australian landscape—the vastness of it, the textures beneath my feet, the colours that seem to change with every turn. Red earth, weathered rock, soft sand, muted greens and endless blue. There is something wonderfully raw and untouched about it all.

When I spend time in these places, I am filled with awe at the beauty of our world and, ultimately, the God who created it. The scale and beauty of the Australian landscape reminds me that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.

And strangely, that realisation brings me calm.

There is something reassuring about standing in a landscape that has existed long before us and will continue long after us. It puts life into perspective. I feel connected—to nature, to creation, to something greater than myself. It is a feeling I find difficult to put into words, but it is one I want to hold onto.

It is this feeling of awe, connection and calm that I bring into my ceramic work.

My jewellery is an expression of the beauty I see in the world around me. Through colour, texture and simple organic forms, I try to capture something of those moments when I am surrounded by the Australian landscape and completely absorbed in its beauty.

My ceramic wares take that inspiration in a different direction. I am drawn to the textures, irregularities, organic shapes and open spaces found in our landscape. I love the idea of bringing some of that rawness and simplicity into our everyday spaces.

For me, Raw Earth is more than a material. It is a feeling.

It is awe.

It is connection.

It is beauty.

It is the quiet assurance that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.

And it is this feeling that I hope to share through everything I make.
